Albany County broadband infrastructure project
The county is continuing its broadband push, with ECC Technologies consulting on expansion to roughly 1,000 addresses in the southern hill towns plus additional addresses in the north, funded by a state ConnectALL grant and ARP money.
Rural broadband expansion
County grant agreements with Archtop Fiber and State-Tel will extend fiber to about 85 households on side roads off Route 443 in New Scotland and Bethlehem, with the state reimbursing the county.
Water Purification District capital plan
North Albany and Menands residents have been dealing with odors tied to a failed sludge mixing system at the North plant. The long-term fix — a new large-bubble mixing system — is targeted for 2027, with the broader incinerator and dewatering upgrades running through early 2029. Officials announced a new odor-control study starting within weeks and said a chemical pilot failed last year, leaving limited short-term options.
County electricity supply contract extension
The county wants to keep buying power from NRG for eight more months while it folds newly purchased St. Rose and aquatic center properties into a future competitive bid. A demand-response program could pay the county for running facilities on backup generators during peak-demand days.
Natural gas supply costs through 2029
With gas prices jumping because of the Iran conflict and rising exports, the county wants to lock in its gas contract basis cost through October 2029 and dollar-cost-average over the term.
