MVP Arena Operations and Management Agreement
The county is spending about $5.5 million on a new sound system for the 30-year-old MVP Arena, designed around its tricky acoustics and funded by county bonds. Two contracts — electrical and general construction — were approved.
Department of General Services Leadership Appointment
The county appointed a new leader for the Department of General Services to oversee county facilities, fleet, and operational services.
Albany Capital Center performance and visitors' tax
The Capital Center had a record 2025 with 115,000+ visitors and $17.8M in economic impact, including nearly $1M in sales tax for Albany County. The hotel tax that funds it is being recycled into marketing and events, and the expansion is on track for early 2027.
County workforce shortages and internship pipeline
Albany County has about 450 unfilled jobs, many in entry-level roles people don't know exist. The proposed work-study program would bring local college and vocational students in as paid interns to build a hiring pipeline.
Employment for people with disabilities
The county renews its contract with New York Industries for the Disabled, which employs people with disabilities to clean the Judicial Center and Family Court. Legislators asked whether the program could expand to IT and records work.
Advanced Nuclear Technologies Support (Local Law H)
A local law would let the county use economic development tools to attract companies making parts and components for the nuclear industry, as New York plans up to 5 gigawatts of new nuclear power. Sponsor Burgdorf says it could bring thousands of union jobs; Plotsky doubts the law's intent covers nuclear. No county money is committed directly — any project would still need approval from the county's STAGE committee.
Legislative Leadership Organization
The county legislature organized for the new term by swearing in new members and electing leadership, selecting Joanne Cunningham as chairwoman.
